YOUR SITUATION

The brief is only the beginning.

A production agreement needs to connect the creative brief with the actual workflow: who supplies each asset, who approves each version, what counts as a change and when payment falls due.

01

Commissioning a Chinese production team

Define the scope, sample standard, episode versions, review process, revisions, final delivery and payment milestones.

02

Licensing and releasing content

Review the rights chain and the proposed territory, term, platforms and permitted uses. Separate production delivery from distribution and revenue-sharing obligations.

03

AI-assisted content and production disputes

Review tool and source-material permissions, agreed deliverables, creative records and applicable labelling arrangements. Address disagreements over quality, extra work, rights or unpaid fees.

OUR APPROACH

From the facts
to the next action.

Work is scoped to the matter. Meetings, correspondence and progress updates can be handled in English.

  1. 01

    Map the rights and roles

Identify the producer, commissioner, rights holders, review contacts and payment parties. List the scripts, artwork, voices, music and other materials involved.

  2. 02

    Set a usable delivery standard

Connect the sample and brief to version control, review comments, change approvals and payment. Make acceptance and release separate, clearly defined stages.

  3. 03

    Manage changes and close out

Record changes in scope, cost and schedule. Confirm the final file handover, agreed permissions and outstanding payment issues.

PREPARING FOR A DISCUSSION

A useful starting point.

Begin with a non-confidential outline. Unreleased scripts and other project files can be shared through an agreed channel once the engagement arrangements are clear.

  • A short project brief and the participating companies
  • The latest production, licensing or distribution agreement
  • A list of materials supplied by each party
  • The sample standard, delivery schedule and review process
  • The payment terms, disputed changes or outstanding approvals

COMMON QUESTIONS

Before we begin.

Does receiving a finished video mean we own every right in it?

File delivery and rights ownership or permission are separate questions. Review the contract and the permissions for the script, artwork, performances, music and other materials, including the intended territory and uses.

Can you help an overseas producer work with a Chinese studio?

Yes, within an agreed Chinese-law scope. We can discuss production terms, rights arrangements, delivery and payment in English with your team and the Chinese counterparty.

Does your work cover release requirements in other countries?

Our core scope is mainland Chinese law. If a project needs advice on another jurisdiction’s law, that work and any involvement of locally qualified counsel need to be agreed separately.

A PLACE TO START

Let’s discuss your next step.

Tell us who is involved, what needs attention and any important dates. We can start the conversation in English.
